On Memorial Day Avery gave a speech at Forest Hill Cemetery in Oak Creek. She joined some of Wisconsin's dignitaries during the morning event. After her speech she participated in a wreath laying ceremony at the veterans' memorial along with the Legion Auxiliary president Pat Ehleiter and the Legion Post Commander Lyle Riffel.

Flag Planting with the Poppy Princess

Avery spent the morning planting flags at the veterans' cemetery in Union Grove, Wisconsin with her grandfather. She has been planting flags with him since she was very small. Here is this year's photo of her and a few from past years too.

Poppy Princess and the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight

Avery was chosen as the greeter for the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight. She waited for the arrival of the two flights and the end of the veterans' journey back to Milwaukee. Each person received a poppy as they deplaned from the day's events. She enjoyed meeting the veterans and they were so touched by her being there. Due to TSA security rules, we only got to catch a photo of her before she headed down the tarmac.

Poppy Proclamation Day Declaration

The city of Oak Creek invited Avery to the May city council meeting to meet the alderpersons and the administrators. After the introductions, Avery handed out poppies to everyone at the meeting and they were very generous to her in return. Mayor Dan Bukiewicz then issued by proclamation National Poppy Day in the month of May.

Roadrunners' Annual Bike Blessing

The motorcycle club holds its annual bike blessing here at the legion post in the parking lot. The lower hall was used for motorcycle themed vendors and the auxiliary has the privilege to serve food to all who attend. We served hamburgers and brats from the kitchen of the lower hall. We love the opportunity to support them and we are happy to serve everyone. This year was a cold, cloudy day so we had to dress warm even though we were indoors.

We were ready to serve the many people who attend.

Everyone was dressed in their warmest motorcycle jackets on the chilly day.

This was a very successful event for our auxiliary catering service. The attendees were happy with the food and we were glad to hear it.
